Your vintage rotary phone may very well be a valuable collectible item. Prices of these classic phones are accelerating and holding the old phones as an investment may be a wise thing to do.
Old rotary dial phones are increasing in price for the following reasons:
1. Low Inventory of Classic Rotary Phones
Many of the old rotary phone’s were simply not made in great numbers. Prior to World War II most households did not have a telephone in them, and in rural America *very few* homes had a rotary phone. There was an assortment of candlestick phones in production and in homes, but it was the exception rather than the rule to have an old phone in your home. These old candlestick phones were a novelty that only wealthier Americans owned.
2. Many Old Rotary Phones Were Damaged or Destroyed
Historically, it was the policy and practice of the phone company to destroy classic rotary phones that were no longer in use. Tens of thousands of vintage phones were crushed and destroyed by the same manufacturer who originally made them! This fact is precisely why some of the models are very rare today and command high prices as collectible phones. Most of the rotary phones do not survive today!
3. Old Rotary Phones are Romantic and Timeless
Let’s face it, many baby boomers thing old dial phones are romantic and reminisce about them. The fact that they remember these old vintage phones from their youth when they visited Grandma’s house makes them more valuable today. This historical romance with old rotary phones makes them increase in value and become a highly sought after rotary phones on eBay and other auction sites.
Old rotary dial phones are still undervalued in price. Their collectible value remains high and interest and demand is increasing. Every day that passes means the inventory has decreased a bit as many people simply throw out old phones that should make their way to flea markets and garage sales.
