Baby boomers and anyone else over forty years of age certainly recalls the classic rotary phones that adorned the homes of our parents and grandparents. Vintage rotary phones were a standard item in almost every home from that era. Well, at least in homes that had phones because believe it or not, some folks didn’t own rotary phones in those days!

More than likely you remember the standard issue black rotary dial phone made popular by Western Electric. It was a rather boring looking rotary dial phone, but it served tens of thousands of customers very well over the years. It was soon replaced by more vivid colors and became something of a relic, but the classic rotary dial telephone was truly a part of Americana.
Fast forward to the 21st century. Some of those vintage rotary phones are selling for as much as $300.00 or more at various auction sites such as eBay and Cragislist. The colored versions seem to be the most popular, and certainly the pink Princess phone is among the most popular.
Avoid Reproduction Vintage Rotary Phones
Be careful when buying from auction sites that you don’t get burdened with one of the cheap knockoff imitation rotary telephones. You are looking for an original working rotary phone and probably it’s best to stick with those made by Western Electric.
Don’t forget that flea markets and garage sales are also great places to find bargain rotary phones or cheap rotary phones. You can always have the phone restored by a professional to guarantee that they will work with today’s phone systems.
Classic Rotary Phones Are Great Investments
Vintage collectible items are big sellers on eBay these days and the vintage rotary phone market makes up a fair share of collectible sold on eBay. These phones have quite a following and many people collect them as an investment.
Remember that there are new reproductions of these old rotary phones. If you are cautious and only work with reputable sellers you will likely end up with a rotary phone treasure that will last for decades to come!
